Dan Martin - Director 

The director of the “Nat Turner: Following Faith“, Dan Martin is an actor, director, and photographer, who has been a busy and familiar face in TV and film. He was a nominee for the NAACP Image Award as Best Actor in a Daytime Drama. His stage credits as an actor include stints with the famed Negro Ensemble Company in New York in “A Soldiers Play” and in “Ceremonies in Dark Old Men“. Other plays with other companies include “Streamers”, “The Guys in the Truck”, “Hamlet”, “Split Second”, the national tour of Lee Blessing’s “Cobb” directed by Lloyd Richards, the international European tour of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, and many more. He has appeared in many of LA‘s, Towne Street Theater productions including “Nevis Mountain Dew” and “Five on the Black Hand Side.” He was previously seen here at Theater/Theatre in “The Motor Trade” and “No Chance in Hell”, both directed by Jeff Murray. In addition to plays in NY and around the country as an actor, he was also director of many plays such as, “For Colored Girls….”, “The River Niger”, Ron Milner’s “A Theme for Linda”, and the dark fantasy, “A Bag of Magic”. He directed both “Southern Girls” by Dura Temple and Sheri Bailey and “IRIS” by Jaimyon Parker, at the Complex Theater in Hollywood. He has directed both August Wilson’s “Fences” and Levy Lee Simon’s “The Bow Wow Club”, for the National Black Theater Festival. He directed the national tour of Ella Joyce’s one woman tribute to Rosa Parks, “A Rose Among Thorns”. He also directed the short film “When Night Comes” for E Hubbard Productions. On film Dan has appeared in “Beverly Hills Cop #3,” “Heat”, “Steven King’s Sleepwalkers”, “Rush Hour”, “Enough” “Leprechaun in the Hood”, and “The Gridiron Gang”. On TV he’s been seen in “Laurel Avenue”, “The Grinder”, “Code Black” “Malcolm in the Middle” and many more. For many years, he has appeared as Lt. Baker on CBS’s “The Bold & the Beautiful”.  

Paula Neiman - Playwright/ Producer

Paula has served in various aspects of the entertainment industry, albeit her first love and primarily focus is as a writer.  She has written and/or created over two dozen screenplay/TV projects, music videos, along with an AUDIES award winning audio book.  Some of her additional distributed works include the feature STRAIGHT OUT, and her directorial debut, the multiple award-winning short film WITHIN THE WALL starring Omari Hardwick — both of which she wrote/ produced.  Writing for the stage commenced with GRANDE CENTRAL, followed by NAT TURNER: FOLLOWING FAITH, and the musical THE RIDE (co-written with artist/novelist Frank Underwood).   Most recently, her one act play WE WEAR THE MASK premiered as part of the Paul Robeson Theatre Festival under the direction of Ben Guillory, and produced by the Robey Theatre Company.  She’s also produced two one-person shows, both directed by Michael P. Edwards: BURN starring Ingez Rameau, and I AM NOT SAM originally starring Tony Award winning actor Tom Sizemore, followed by Edwards.  

Vanja Renee - Producer

Vanja is a stand-up comedian/actor/producer, and has been involved in theatre both onstage and off-stage for most of her life. She recently appeared as Vera Cunningham in the Robey Theatre production of the critically acclaimed "The Magnificent Dunbar Hotel" written by Levy Lee Simon and directed by Ben Guillory - a play, also, selected to be a part of the prestigious National Black Theatre Festival held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in August 2015. She is thrilled to be joining Paula Neiman and Dan Martin in bringing Paula's wonderful work to the theatre stage. Vanja's stand-up resume includes regular gigs at the Comedy Store, Flappers Comedy Club Leche Lounge and the Ice House. To find out where she'll be next visit vanjarenee.com. Tamir Elbassir - Production Stage Manager 

Tamir is a director, actor, and fight choreographer in theatre and film. He received his AA in Acting from Long Beach City College and recently graduated with his Bachelors in Theatre Directing Emphasis from the University of California San Diego. He is excited to be working with such a talented team. Break legs. 

Sammie Wayne IV (Lighting Designer) 

Sammie is an award winning Actor and Lighting Designer.  He is also a Stage Manager and Director. Sammie originated the role of Chester Himes in  Levy Lee Simon’s, “The Magnificent Dunbar Hotel”  directed by Ben Guillory. Since 2010, Sammie has received five NAACP Theatre Awards, two for acting and three for lighting design. In 2009, he received Best Supporting Actor for “One Woman Two Lives”, directed by Denise Dowse. He received Best Lighting Design for Loretta Devine’s “Pieces of Me”,  Vicki Lynn Reynolds, “Hattie:What I Need You To Know” and Celeste Bedford Walker’s “Camp Logan in 2011,2012,2013, respectively. In 2013, he received Best Supporting Actor for Ana Lucasta, directed by Ben Guillory. He directed several episodes of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 20.  Sammie has a B.S in Computer Science, from DePaul University and was a Computer Programmer-Analyst and Software Engineer for General Motors and Northrop Grumman.

Mauva Gacitua (Costume Designer/Waredrobe Stylist) 

Mauva has always had a love for fashion for decades.  She worked briefly as a model in Toronto before the demands of motherhood and her real day job forced her to abandon the catwalk. Hours spent browsing at Holt Renfrew downtown Toronto was really research on how to look designer-made. And, working for an accessory distributor with many hours spent at the Jewelry Exchange--her love for bold jewelry pieces was born.  Mauva moved to New York and New York Fashion Week in 1993 further fueled her fashion dreams.  Mauva has since moved to Los Angeles and boasts an impressive wardrobing knowledge on clothing, shoes, handbags and exquisite jewelry.  She has combined instinct with experience, and demonstrates a good understanding of fit, cut, symmetry and has collaborated with designers on their clothing lines and showings.  She has produced Fashion Events and styled/produced photo shoots for magazines.  Her collaborations have placed her at various Fashions Weeks, presenting full collections at Islands of The World Fashion Week 2009, Palm Spring Fashion Week 2010, Funkshion Fashion Week Miami Fall 2010, Model Search 2011, Hattitude at California African American Museum Spring 2013, StyleWeek North East Spring 2015 and New Mexico Fashion Week Spring 2015, with print work in Melrose Heights Magazine, Trade Secret and The Providence Journal.

Jaimyon Parker - Sound Designer 

“Jaimyon Parker grew up in Houston, TX.  After high school, he proudly served as a US Air Force C-5 Aircraft Loadmaster, and began acting after his enlistment ended. He has since worked on such prestigious stages as the Stella Adler Theater & Pasadena Playhouse, and in film/series including BAR MOMENTS, HOW SHAWN PARKER FELL IN LOVE, SWEET TOOTH (Bronze Telly Award Winner), and I HATE MY CO-WORKER (LA Web Series Fest Award Winner). He has produced on numerous films including PARANEGRO ACTIVITY (2012), which he also directed. His debut stage production, FAITH, which he wrote, co-produced, and directed played to sold out audiences. His subsequent production JAMES & JOSEPH, directed by Malika Blessing, garnered him a 2009 NAACP Nomination for BEST LOCAL PLAYWRIGHT. He was recently seen on the small screen as “Duncan Klee” in the season finale of BONES (FOX TV), and next will be starring as “Wayne” in LIKE FAMILY, an original television series he created, directed, and co-produced. Jaimyon is also a published poet & a sought after freelance photographer. Thank you to Paula, Dan, & Vanja for including me in such an amazingly powerful piece! Tamir, you are the man!
