ABOUT

Following Faith depicts the life of Nat Turner by fusing an interpretive gaze into his psyche with actual historic moments, and a greek chorus-esque rhythmic interweaving of characters.

"When we revolt it’s not for a particular culture. We revolt simply because, for many reasons, we can no longer breathe."
- Frantz Fanon

"Patience has its limits. Take it too far, and it's cowardice."

- *General* George Jackson

"Once you are enslaved and once you are in servitude you have no moral obligation to the people who have enslaved you. In enslaving you, they have freed you of all moral obligations because the nature of their enslavement of you says that you are without humanity, without manhood, without womanhood, without dignity and anything you do to get those things back is morally justified."

- John Henrik Clarke

"When our children look at Harriet Tubman Shaw or Nat Turner's bible or the plane flown by Tuskegee Airmen, I don’t want them to be seen as figures somehow larger than life. I want them to see how ordinary Americans could do extraordinary things; how men and women just like them had the courage and determination to right a wrong, to make it right."

- Barack Obama - at the Groundbreaking of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture on 2.22.12
